During this wave of anti-bank sentiment over the past few months, I’ve occasionally wondered why more credit unions haven’t directly referenced the Occupy movement. Many CUs have been riding the anti-banking wave surrounding Bank Transfer Day earlier this month, but I haven’t read much about CUs vocally supporting Occupy, even though Occupiers support the idea of CUs.
Well, Tina Mooney, who is the CEO and manager of RAH Federal Credit Union near Boston, provides details of her thoughts and a possible glimpse into what other CU leaders are thinking.
She focused on Occupy Boston in particular when speaking to Credit Union Times: “Look at the news clips. Drugs, needles, pot, filth, rape, stench and God knows what else. Who would want to be affiliated with that? This is not the kind of movement you want to drive people to. They’re out of control.”
